The Florida Flight basketball program started in September 2013 with the intent of helping underprivileged and sometimes forgotten kids learn life skills through basketball. As such, we rely solely on team registration fees, fundraisers and donations while maintaining our 501C3 nonprofit status.
Each child is taught the fundamentals of basketball from former college and professional basketball coaches in a safe environment conducive to learning, while striving to instill the importance of education, academic achievement and sportsmanship. It is important for our kids to stay academically strong, thus, we offer educational support in the form of free tutoring, mentoring, and counseling for those that are in need.
During the year, we have asked the parents that can afford to contribute extra funds to continue contributing to the program but it isn’t enough. The rising cost of keeping a successful program afloat has overwhelmed us to say the least.
For example, uniforms, shoes, notebooks, backpacks, equipment, insurance, league fees, lodging, transportation, and meals are a few of our required expenses.
We pride ourselves in providing a positive experience for each child regardless of their socioeconomic status.
